MERCHANT BUYER GUIDE
Payment terminal or POS system?
Five questions to help prepare your choice and your conversation with AAK.
01Payment terminal or point-of-sale system?
A terminal primarily accepts payments. A POS system can also bring together checkout, product catalogues, inventory and reporting. Start with the work you need to do; a broader system is useful only when its features match your needs.
02Countertop or portable?
Identify where customers pay. A fixed checkout, a portable device used around a restaurant and a terminal used on the road have different requirements. Check connectivity, battery needs and what happens if the connection drops.
03Which features are essential?
Separate must-haves from optional extras: tipping, receipts, product management, staff accounts and reporting. Ask which features are included, which need a software plan or app, and which integrations are compatible.
04How should I compare a proposal?
Review hardware purchase or rental, software, processing charges and additional fees. Check contract length, cancellation terms and support responsibilities. A useful comparison considers the full cost and the way you sell.
05What should I ask before switching?
Who configures the hardware? When will service start? Which data can be transferred? What onboarding is included? Confirm these points in the proposal rather than assuming they are part of every offering.
